Lead inspector Kate Fripp聽found聽聽Infant School was 鈥榦utstanding鈥� in behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management 鈥� as well as early years provision.

The quality of the聽聽was awarded 鈥榞ood鈥� as the report concluded: 鈥淧upils are proud of their friendly school.

鈥淧upils behave exceptionally well, and they burst with pride.

鈥淭he environment is impressively well thought through, and pupils鈥� personal development is extremely well considered.鈥�

The report also noted: 鈥淭he same passion and determination are shared by all staff, who want the very best for the pupils at the school.鈥�

Headteacher of Weston Shore Infant School, James Wiltshire, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e really pleased for all of the staff, children, parents and carers, as well as the governors and academy trust.

鈥淲e鈥檙e really proud that there are four areas that are outstanding and even the one good area.

鈥淭he staff have worked so hard to make sure that we鈥檝e got the very best environment possible for the children.鈥�

Mr Wiltshire was especially proud of the school鈥檚 work since their previous Ofsted inspection.

He said: 鈥淭he school, at its last full inspection, was graded as a special measure school.

鈥淎 lot of work has gone into professional development, so we really prioritise opportunities for staff as well, to make sure they鈥檙e highly trained and can help the students with their development.鈥�

Assistant headteacher, Navneet Juttla, added: 鈥淧arents have been overwhelmingly positive with their feedback and believe the school is outstanding.

鈥淲e want to create endless opportunities for our children and make sure they understand what they need to do in order to reach their aspirations.

鈥淎 lot of hard work has gone into improving the school and we couldn鈥檛 be happier.鈥�

Emma Sultan鈥檚 translation of 鈥楧oggy Sorrows鈥� by Jan Brzechwa:聽

On the bank of the blue river Little sorrows live.聽

The first reason is That you鈥檙e not allowed to enter the garden.聽

The second one 鈥� that the water doesn鈥檛 want to be dry聽

The third one is that there鈥檚 a fly in its ear, Then the cat has to scratch, And the hen can鈥檛 be caught, And that you can鈥檛 bite your neighbour鈥檚 leg, And that no sausages fall from the sky.

聽And the last sorrow is this one: The man gets to drive and the dog has to run on its own feet!聽

But it is enough to give the dog milk And there are no more sorrows on the bank of the river.聽

I found translating the poem both challenging and interesting. The challenging part was because I couldn鈥檛 read in Polish so I had to sound out the word. Given the fact that in Polish, the same letter can have a different sound, it was even more challenging. The interesting bit was thinking about which word would make sense in the English version. It was a funny poem so I really enjoyed translating it.

On Wednesday, Riya went to the Guildhall in Southampton to be inaugurated as the new Children鈥檚 Mayor in a Mayor Making ceremony in front of an audience of over 200 people.聽 Riya was presented with the robes during the ceremony. Riya will now spend the year taking part in a number of events across the city after school, during holidays and at the weekends where she may have to make a speech or may just be required to attend.

I am sure you will join us in congratulating Riya and wishing her the best in her role as Children鈥檚 Mayor of Southampton.
